Recognition & Awards

A Resident Company (through 2004) at The Boston Center for the Arts, Pilgrim Theatre is recognized for commitment to artistic quality and community involvement. In 1997 and again in 2000 we won a competitive, three-year grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. We received funding from LEF for a 2001 statewide tour of The House Not Touched By Death, by Janna Goodwin, in collaboration with the Hospice and Palliative Care Federation of Massachusetts.

In summer of 2002, Pilgrim Theatre was one of two U.S. companies invited to perform our latest work, FAUST 2002 (which premiered at the Boston Center for the Arts’ Cyclorama in June), in the MALTA International Festival of Performance (Poznan, Poland) as a mainstage event. We won funding for this project from the Fund for U.S. Artists at International Festivals (NEA) and from MIT’s School of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Awards include Regional Excellence from the New England Theatre Conference; NY Critics Theatre Wire list (Guys Dreamin’, at LaMama E.T.C) “Ten best productions in New York, 1997”; and since 1998, IRNE nominations for best actor and best play. Susan Letzler Cole’s most recent book (April 2001, Routledge), Playwrights in Rehearsal - The Seduction of Company, features Pilgrim Theatre’s work with Jean-Claude van Itallie on The Tibetan Book of the Dead, which was performed in the Boston Center for the Arts Cyclorama.
